Tripura, India's second smallest state lies at the southern extremity of the north east region of the country bordered by Bangladesh on three sides. To the north is the state of Assam while Mizoram lies to its north east. Located between 22 ° 56 and 24 ° 32 north latitude and 90 ° 09 and 92 ° 20 east latitude it is one of the most picturesque states in the region. Once a princely state it ceded to the Indian Government after partition in 1947. With 60% of its land under forests Tripura has four wild life sanctuaries supporting a wide variety of flora and fauna. Today it is increasingly becoming popular as a tourist destination being accessible round the year. However the best months are from October March. The monsoons are heavy and turn the green hills into richer hues of deep green. Stately Palaces and thickly forested hillsides teeming with a wide variety of flora and fauna, large lakes and floating islands, is how Tripura can be described in a nutshell.

This quaint little state lies in an area of 10,500 Sq.Kms and is populated with 19 different tribes, while the remainder are largely emigrant Bengali and Manipuri and other Indian communities.

The British East India Company first made inroads into Tripura and made it part of their east Indian territories in the 19th century while later the British Empire had taken over most of the North East region leaving the rulers of the states as titular heads.

Today Tribal Discovery offers great package tours and cultural tours in this nature rich state.
